I’ve worked in publishing for over twenty years, spending eighteen years at Algonquin Books/Workman Publishing, where I built a robust, diverse list of literary fiction and narrative nonfiction. I was hired to acquire literary fiction for the commercial list by Ballantine Books/Random House where I spent five years as an Executive Editor, before launching a freelance career. I live in Columbia County, New York, with my husband and two school-aged children.
“Andra Miller changed my writing life. She’s a genius editor who always somehow had this intuitive understanding of what I was struggling to do even before I had figured it out myself. Funny, smart, and so, so warm, I always felt that she was helping me to fly higher, write better, risk more, even as she always was always the trusted safety net below me. And because of Andra, after 8 novels written with other editors, I had my first—and second—New York Times bestseller.” —Caroline Leavitt, New York Times bestselling author of Pictures of You, With or Without You, and more
“Andra is that rare editor who is every bit as committed to preserving a writer’s voice as she is to sharpening the sentences on the page. She has a keen instinct for when to defer to the writer’s judgment and when to take full command, working most of all on behalf of the book's future readers, ensuring that the story they encounter is the best version of itself that can be told.” —Jordan Ritter Conn, author of The Road from Raqqa
“Andra Miller is the friggin best. She helped me find my voice, refine my message, amplify my ideas, all without compromising the integrity of my work.” —Janice Johnson Dias, PhD, author of Parent Like it Matters
"Andra is a writer’s dream: keen-eyed and sharp-minded, yet gentle, playful, and curious. She is a brilliant thinker and a kind and generous reader. Her insight, support, and collaborative spirit not only improved my novel, but also made me a better writer."—Antonia Angress, author of Sirens & Muses
“Brilliant and gracious, Andra Miller is a dream editor. She's able to hone in on what a book needs and to then work collaboratively to make it into the best it can be. Over the course of our work together, I've been transformed by her sharp eye and steadfast support. I can't recommend her more highly.”—Jasmin Darznik, author of The Bohemians
"Andra Miller is a brilliant editor. She’s wise, diligent, responsible, and prompt. She breathed life into my first novel, and I’m forever grateful to have worked with her. She has a tremendous intuition and astute insights. I trust her editorial skills and guidance and will not hesitate to seek her professional advice in the future.” —Kristina Gorcheva-Newberry, author of The Orchard
“There’s something magical about meeting an editor who understands your book better than you do— who knows what's wrong and how to fix it. Andra Miller is just this kind of superhero. Her compassion, penetrating brilliance, and creativity helped me bring out the best in my novel— and myself. I wouldn’t be the writer I am without her support.”— C. Morgan Babst, author of The Floating World
